Cruise - Maritime Transport of Passengers
Cruise ships carry passengers on sightseeing trips with several destinations.
Once reserved for a privileged population, this activity has been strongly developed and democratized since the 1980s, first in the Caribbean and then worldwide.
The cruise industry is developing, democratizing and diversifying, by offering a multiple offer, in low-cost as well as in luxury, with thematic cruises in differentiated destinations. Today, it concerns more than 25 million passengers. This sector is currently taking up new challenges connected with the environment and the acceptability of tourist flows by the inhabitants of port cities.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, 611,019 cruise passengers were welcomed in 2018 from the ports of Cannes, Antibes and Nice-Villefranche-sur-Mer (data of 2018).
