Ferry - Maritime Passenger Transport
Ferries, also known as car-ferries, are used to transport passengers, their vehicles or even trucks and their cargo. They are also known as mixed (ro-pax) vessels because they carry both passengers and rolling freight.
Ferries provide frequent and regular connections in ports by embarking and disembarking vehicles via specially designed ramps (roll-on roll-up).
Approximately 30 million passengers transited through French ports in 2015.
In the Alpes Maritimes, this activity mainly concerns services to the Lérins Islands from the port of Cannes and several other destinations on the Côte d'Azur from the ports of Mandelieu, Cannes, Golfe-Juan or Nice (data of 2018).
